mocharef مشرف
Tunisian Derja · adjective
“mocharef” (مشرف) is an adjective in Tunisian Derja meaning honorable, creditable.
Meanings
- honorable, creditable
- something to be proud of
Usage
Mocharref, "that does one credit", is used mainly for a result, a performance or a career: ada mocharref ("an honorable performance"), nata2ij mocharrfa ("honorable results"). It is also said of a person who does credit to their country or family: mocharref tounes. The register is rather formal; it is often heard in sport and the media, but it is common in speech. Pitfall: the same Arabic spelling can be read mochrif, "supervisor" or "mentor", a completely different word. Context and pronunciation, with a doubled r and an a vowel for "honorable", tell them apart.
Example
المنتخب خسر أما قدّم ماتش مشرّف.
el montakhab khser ama 9addem match mocharref.
“The national team lost, but it put on a respectable match.”
