Meanings

- fighter of the faith, mujahid
Usage
Moujehid refers to someone who fights for a cause. In Tunisia, it first evokes the fighters of the national liberation struggle. The expression "el moujehid el akbar" ("the supreme fighter") is the title given to Bourguiba, often reused ironically for a leader who sees himself as a savior. The word also keeps its religious sense of a fighter in the name of the faith. It is finally used mockingly for someone who plays the hero from a distance: "ken moujehid, ija". The plural is moujehdin.
