omour امور

Tunisian Derja · noun

“omour” (امور) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning things, matters, situation (plural).

Meanings

  1. things, matters, situation (plural)
  2. personal affairs, one's own business

Usage

Omour is the plural of amr (“matter, thing”) and is almost always used in the plural. You mostly hear it in phrases like “kifech el omour?” (“how are you, how are things going?”) or “el omour labes” (“things are going well”). With a possessive, it refers to someone's personal affairs: “ma todkhelch fi omouri” (“don't get involved in my affairs”). The register is common, slightly more formal than equivalents such as chghol. Pitfall: in arabizi, the spelling “amour” has nothing to do with the word for love. It can also be confused with the first name Amor.

Example

كيفاش الأمور عندك؟ لاباس؟

kifech el omour 3andek? labes?

“How are things with you? All good?”
