ou او

Tunisian Derja · conjunction

“ou” (او) is a conjunction in Tunisian Derja meaning and (spelling of "w").

Meanings

  1. and (spelling of "w")
  2. or (more formal register)

Usage

In writing, especially online, the spelling "ou" or "o" is very often used to write the conjunction "w", "and", which links words and clauses: "chouf houwa w chouf ena". To express an alternative, Derja mostly uses "walla"; "aw", meaning "or", is rather reserved for formal register or close to Standard Arabic. Context almost always settles it: a list or a sequence of actions indicates "and".
