ra7ba رحبة
Tunisian Derja · noun
“ra7ba” (رحبة) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning livestock market, marketplace.
Meanings
- livestock market, marketplace
- chaotic, noisy place
Usage
Ra7ba first refers to a marketplace, especially a livestock market: "ra7bet el ghnam" is the sheep market, very busy before Eid. In the construct state, one hears "ra7bet" or "ra7bit" followed by the name of what is sold there. In a very common figurative sense, the word describes a place full of noise, crowding and disorder, like the English "it's a madhouse" or "it's a zoo": "wallet ra7ba" (it's turned into a madhouse). This figurative sense is informal and often ironic, especially when talking about social media or a meeting that gets out of hand.
Example
مشينا للرحبة باش نشريو العلوش
mchina lel ra7ba bech nechriw el 3allouch
“We went to the livestock market to buy the sheep.”
