riya رية
Tunisian Derja · noun
“riya” (رية) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning lung.
Meanings
- lung
Usage
Riya means the lung, in human as well as animal anatomy. It's the usual word in derja, corresponding to standard Arabic ri'a, pronounced without the glottal stop. You hear it mostly about health, breathing, or tobacco, often with the article: "er-riya". It's also used for offal at the butcher's. Note that in written arabizi, riya can be confused with other words or word fragments (as in proper names or endings), so context matters.
Example
الدخان يخسرلك الرية.
edd5an y5asserlek er-riya.
“Cigarettes damage your lungs.”
