sag ساڨ
Tunisian Derja · verb
“sag” (ساڨ) is a verb in Tunisian Derja meaning to drive (a vehicle).
Meanings
- to drive (a vehicle)
- to lead, drive (a herd)
Usage
Sēg is the regional variant, with g, of sēq (yesūq), "to drive". It is heard mainly in rural speech and in some regions of the interior and the south. In the city, sēq is more common. The usual meaning is "to drive a car": ysoug el karhba, "he's driving the car". It is also used for a herd driven ahead of oneself. The verb conjugates like hollow verbs: sēg in the past, ysoug in the present, soug in the imperative. The word also has a vulgar use in transitive construction, so it is best to stick to the driving context.
Example
شكون باش يسوڨ الكرهبة اليوم؟
chkoun bech ysoug el karhba lyoum?
“Who is going to drive the car today?”
