sare7 سارح

Tunisian Derja · adjective

“sare7” (سارح) is an adjective in Tunisian Derja meaning out grazing the flock.

Meanings

  1. out grazing the flock
  2. absent-minded, lost in thought

Usage

Sare7 is the participle of the verb "sra7", which means to lead the flock out to pasture. Someone is said to be "sare7 bel 3allouch" when they have gone out to tend the sheep. It is rural vocabulary, still very much alive in the countryside. Figuratively, the word describes a distracted person whose mind is elsewhere: "3lech sare7?" (why are you daydreaming?). It agrees in gender and number: sar7a in the feminine, sar7in in the plural. It should not be confused with "sarra7", which means the shepherd.

Example

بوه سارح بالعلوش في الجبل.

bouh sare7 bel 3allouch fel jbal.

“His father has gone to graze the sheep in the mountain.”
