snouber صنوبر
Tunisian Derja · noun
“snouber” (صنوبر) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning pine tree.
Meanings
- pine tree
- pine wood
Usage
Snouber refers to the pine, a tree found in the forests of the north and the Cap Bon. The word is used as a collective ("ghaba mta3 snouber", a pine forest). For a single tree, one says snouberra or "chajra snouber". It also refers to pine wood in carpentry and roofing. Pitfall for an English speaker: the pine nuts used in tea or pastries are called bondo9 instead. As for zgougou, it is the seed of the Aleppo pine, used to make the cream for the Mouled. Snouber therefore does not refer to pine nuts.
