stin ستين

Tunisian Derja · numeral

“stin” (ستين) is a numeral in Tunisian Derja meaning sixty.

Meanings

  1. sixty

Usage

Stin is the number sixty, used alone or in compound numbers, always placed after the unit and linked by "w": khamsa w stin (sixty-five), tlatha w stin (sixty-three). It is heard for ages, prices, measurements and percentages. The counted noun that follows stays singular: stin dinar, stin metr. The pitfall for an English speaker is the order of the elements, which is the reverse of English ("five and sixty"). Derja does not follow the French soixante-dix / quatre-vingts logic: seventy is sab3in, a number in its own right.

Example

عمرو خمسة و ستين عام

3omrou khamsa w stin 3am

“He is sixty-five years old.”
