tagi تاغى

Tunisian Derja · verb

“tagi” (تاغى) is a verb in Tunisian Derja meaning to tag someone on social media.

Meanings

  1. to tag someone on social media
  2. to mention someone in a comment

Usage

A recent borrowing, from English "tag" or French "taguer", fully adapted to Tunisian conjugation: ntagi (I tag), ntagih (I tag him), ntagihom (I tag them). Used almost exclusively in writing, in Facebook or Instagram comments, to draw a friend's attention to a post. The word also serves as a noun (tag) in phrases like nhdi tag l..., "I dedicate a tag to...". Informal register, specific to social media. Pitfall: it has no connection to the standard Arabic verb "ṭaghā" (to be tyrannical), despite the similar Arabic spelling.

Example

تاغيلي صاحبك باش يشوف البوست

tagili sa7bek bech ychouf el post

“Tag your friend so he sees the post.”
