Meanings

- to purify
- to disinfect (a wound)
Usage
Tahher (imperfect ytahher) has a very common meaning in Tunisia: "to circumcise". You say tahher weldou, "he had his son circumcised", and the celebration that goes with the circumcision is called tahour. The verb also means "to purify", in a religious or moral sense, especially in invocations (Allah ytahher qloubna). It is finally used for "to disinfect" a wound or an object. The passive ttahher means "to be circumcised" or "to be purified". Context is usually enough to resolve the ambiguity.
Example
