Tunisian Derja · noun
“takhassos” (تخصص) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning specialization, field of study.
Meanings
- specialization, field of study
- area of expertise
Usage
Takhassos refers to the specialization of a student or a professional. It is heard mostly about studies: chnouwa takhassosek?, "what is your specialization?". The word comes from Standard Arabic and keeps a somewhat formal, academic or administrative register. In conversation, many Tunisians simply say "spécialité" in French. Note in writing: the same spelling can also correspond to the verb tkhasses ("to devote, to allocate"), common in the press, as in "the company assigns an aircraft". Context distinguishes the noun from the verb.
