Tunisian Derja · verb

“tfarej” (تفرج) is a verb in Tunisian Derja meaning to watch (film, match, show).

Meanings

  1. to watch (film, match, show)
  2. to look on as a spectator

Usage

Tfarrej means to watch a show, a film, television or a match. The object is introduced by fi: tfarrej fi film, "to watch a film". This is a pitfall for an English speaker, who would say "watch something" with no preposition. To simply look at someone or something, chouf or ghzar is used instead. Tfarrej can also describe someone who stays passive in the face of a situation (9a3ed ytfarrej, "he just sits there watching"). The derived noun is frja, "show, entertainment".
