thnech اثناش

Tunisian Derja · numeral

“thnech” (اثناش) is a numeral in Tunisian Derja meaning twelve.

Meanings

  1. twelve

Usage

Thnech (also ethnech) is the number twelve in Tunisian. Like the other numbers from eleven to nineteen, it goes directly before a singular noun: thnech dinar, "twelve dinars", or thnech wa7ed, "twelve people". It is also used alone to give a time, a room number or a flight number: el thnech, "(at) noon" or "the twelfth". The Tunisian pronunciation greatly reduces the classical form. An English speaker should therefore expect to hear "thnèch", with the th sometimes pronounced like a t.
