Usage

Tlab is commonly used for "asking" someone for something. You say tlab menni (he asked me), followed by a conjugated verb with no equivalent of "to": tlab menni n3awnou (he asked me to help him). In the present, it is yotlob. It is also widely used for "calling on the phone": ntalbek ba3d (I'll call you later). In this sense, it can be confused with "asking". The noun talab, pronounced with two vowels, means a formal request or an application. It is found mainly in administrative contexts, for example talab khedma (job application).
