wesa3 واسع

Tunisian Derja · adjective

“wesa3” (واسع) is an adjective in Tunisian Derja meaning wide, roomy.

Meanings

  1. wide, roomy
  2. vast, extensive
  3. vague, imprecise (notion)

Usage

Wésa3 describes what has room: a house, a street, a garment that is too loose. The feminine is wés3a, the plural wés3in. For a garment, wésa3 often means "too big", the opposite of dhayyaq (narrow, tight). In the abstract sense, it applies to a broad or fuzzy notion, as in mafhoum wésa3 (a broad concept), especially in a formal register. The expression bélhou wésa3 ("he has a broad mind") describes a patient, tolerant person. When talking about space, remember that the usual opposition is wésa3 / dhayyaq, rather than kbir / sghir.

Example

الدار هاذي واسعة برشا

eddar hedhi wes3a barcha

“This house is very spacious.”
