Meanings

Usage

Wsef (imperfect youssef) means to describe someone or something: wsefli el dar (describe the house to me). The corresponding noun, wasf, means "description" and appears mainly in fixed phrases such as ma 3andouch wasf or ma fammech wasf, "it's indescribable", to express admiration or exasperation. The register is everyday, but slightly more formal in phrases of praise. Careful: wasfa, a word from the same family, means a doctor's prescription or a recipe. Do not confuse it either with wsel (to arrive), whose rapid pronunciation is close.
