yamini يميني

Tunisian Derja · adjective

“yamini” (يميني) is an adjective in Tunisian Derja meaning right-wing (politics).

Meanings

  1. right-wing (politics)
  2. on my right (3la ymini)

Usage

In the political sense, yamini describes a party or an idea as "right-wing". It is heard in TV debates and in discussions about political life, alongside yassari ("left-wing"). The second sense is literal: 3la ymini, "on my right", formed from ymin, "the right", followed by the possessive suffix. To simply indicate a direction, people more readily say 3al imin or 3al limin. The political sense belongs to a media register, close to Standard Arabic. In everyday conversation, it is mostly the phrase 3la ymini that comes up.
