Meanings

  1. left-wing, leftist (political)

Usage

Yasari is used mainly in political debate, on television, radio or social media, to describe a person or a movement on the left. It is the opposite of yamini (right-wing). It is also used as a noun: "houwa yasari" (he is a man of the left). The feminine is yasariya and the plural yasariyin. The word comes from the standard register but is fully integrated into everyday political speech. In online discussions it often takes on a polemical, even pejorative nuance. Be careful not to confuse it with ysari, "my left", in the spatial sense.
