zjeja زجاجة
Tunisian Derja · noun
“zjeja” (زجاجة) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning glass bottle.
Meanings
- glass bottle
- glass container, flask
Usage
Zjeja (also zoujeja) means a glass bottle, and more broadly a glass container or flask. The material itself is zjej. For an ordinary bottle, especially a plastic one, dbouza is more common. The word is often used with a content complement: zjejet zit, a bottle of oil. The common plural is zjejet. Pitfall for an English speaker: zjeja does not mean a drinking glass, which is kès. The pronunciation zoujeja, closer to standard Arabic, is heard mainly in careful speech; zjeja is the everyday form.
Example
جيبلي الزجاجة من الفريجيدار
jibli ezzjeja mel frigidaire
“Bring me the bottle from the fridge.”
