Meanings
- far, distant (in space)
- distant, long ago (in time)
- unrelated, outside the family
Usage
B3id is used as an adjective ("dar b3ida", a distant house) and as an adverb ("rouh b3id", go far away). It agrees in gender and number: b3id, b3ida, b3ad in the plural. One says "b3id 3la…" for "far from…". Figuratively, "rah tewsel b3id" means "you will go far", that is, succeed. "Rouh l3eb b3id" is a colloquial and somewhat curt way of dismissing someone. For kinship, "wahed b3id" refers to a person outside the family. The word is the opposite of "qrib" (near).
