ghni غني
Algerian Darja · adjective
“ghni” (غني) is an adjective in Algerian Darja meaning rich, wealthy.
Meanings
- rich, wealthy
- rich, dense (content)
Usage
Ghni means "rich". It describes a person who has money, or by extension dense content, such as a programme or an analysis. To talk about a wealthy person, speech often prefers expressions like "3andou drahem" ("he has money"). The feminine is ghniya and the plural is ghniya or aghniya. Beware in writing: without vowels, the same Arabic spelling can be read ghanni, the imperative of "to sing". In a comment addressed to a singer, that is often the meaning to understand.
Example
راجل غني بصح ما يعطي لحد.
rajel ghni bessa7 ma ya3ti l7ad.
“He's a rich man, but he gives nothing to anyone.”
