ghani غني
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“ghani” (غني) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning rich, wealthy.
Meanings
- rich, wealthy
- well-off, lacking nothing
Usage
Ghani describes a person who has money. The feminine is ghania, and the most common plural is ghaniyin. In conversation, people also often say 3ndo lflous ("he has money") or mrfh ("well-off"). The word also works as a noun: lghani, "the rich man", often contrasted with lfqir, "the poor man". Pitfall in writing: the same Arabic spelling can also be read ghenni, the imperative of "to sing" (ghenni lina, "sing for us"). Only context and pronunciation, with or without a doubled consonant, tell the two apart.
