hadi هادي
Algerian Darja · pronoun
“hadi” (هادي) is a pronoun in Algerian Darja meaning this one, this (feminine).
Meanings
- this one, this (feminine)
- this, that (neutral)
- it has been (elapsed time)
Usage
Feminine demonstrative for nearness, equivalent to the masculine "hada". It is used on its own ("hadi khti", this is my sister) or before a noun with the article ("hadi lmerra", this time). It also takes a neutral value to refer to a situation or an idea: "hadi hiya" (that's it), "men hadi" (since then). In expressions of time, "hadi chhal" means "it's been a long time". For distance, "hadik" is used instead. The plural is "hadou". Note: "hadi" is not limited to feminine people and objects; it often serves as "that".
Example
هادي أول مرة نجي لهنا
hadi awel merra nji l hna
“This is the first time I've come here.”
