hadi هادي
Moroccan Darija · pronoun
“hadi” (هادي) is a pronoun in Moroccan Darija meaning this one, this (feminine).
Meanings
- this one, this (feminine)
- this, that (neutral)
- it has been (elapsed time)
Usage
Hadi is the feminine proximal demonstrative. It is used alone (hadi = this one, this) or before a noun with the article: hadi l-bent, "this girl". The masculine is hada, the plural is hado. It also serves as a neutral for a thing or situation: hadi akhir mra, "it's the last time". It is used to tell the time (hadi l-wahda, "it is one o'clock") and to express elapsed time: hadi modda, "it has been a long time". Pitfall: do not confuse it with hadi meaning "calm", which is written differently in Arabic.
Example
هادي آخر مرة
hadi akhir mra
“This is the last time.”
