hedhi هذي

Tunisian Derja · pronoun

“hedhi” (هذي) is a pronoun in Tunisian Derja meaning this one, this (feminine).

Meanings

  1. this one, this (feminine)
  2. this, that (situation)
  3. this (feminine, after a noun)

Usage

Feminine singular demonstrative. The masculine is hedha and the plural is hedhom. It is placed after a definite noun, which is the most natural order: el-mra hedhi (this woman). It can also be placed before: hedhi el-mra. Used alone, it means "this one" or "this": chkoun hedhi? (who is this?), 9addech hedhi? (how much is this one?). Since many abstract nouns are feminine, hedhi often refers to a situation: hedhi 7kéya okhra (that's another story).

Example

شكون هذي؟

chkoun hedhi ?

“Who is this (woman)?”
