Algerian Darja · adjective

“khales” (خالص) is an adjective in Algerian Darja meaning paid, remunerated, settled.

Meanings

  1. paid, remunerated, settled
  2. pure, sincere

Usage

Khales is used in the sense of "paid" or "settled": a khales job is paid, a khalsa debt is settled. It is linked to the verb khelles (to pay). This meaning coexists with a more formal use meaning "pure, sincere", especially in religious formulas ("khales lwajh Allah", done sincerely for God) or epistolary ones ("khales tahiyati", my sincere greetings). The context makes it possible to tell the two apart. Feminine: khalsa.
