lah لاح
Algerian Darja · verb
“lah” (لاح) is a verb in Algerian Darja meaning to throw, toss.
Meanings
- to throw, toss
- to get rid of, discard
Usage
Lah (imperfect ylouh) means to throw or toss something. It is a very common verb in everyday speech: lah lkoura (he threw the ball), louhha (throw it away). It also takes the sense of "to get rid of": lah kolech (he threw everything away). With the reflexive pronoun, lah rouhou means "he threw himself". It should not be confused with the classical verb lâha, "to appear", which Algerians do not understand in that sense. The intensive form lewweh also exists.
Example
لوح هاد الزبل برا
louh had ezzbel berra
“Throw this trash outside.”
