nhar نهار
Algerian Darja · noun
“nhar” (نهار) is a noun in Algerian Darja meaning day.
Meanings
- day
- daytime
Usage
Nhar is the common word for "day". It is used to name a date or a moment: nhar laïd (the day of Eid), nhar ljem3a (Friday), kach nhar (one day, one of these days). It also contrasts with lil (night): fe nhar (by day). The plural is iyyam or ayam. The gloss "collapse" comes from a confusion with a different verb (to collapse) and does not match the Algerian use of this word. It appears in many expressions such as nhar ou lil (day and night).
Example
نهار الجمعة نروحو للبحر
nhar ljem3a nroho lelbhar
