nhar نهار

Tunisian Derja · noun

“nhar” (نهار) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning day, daytime.

Meanings

  1. day, daytime
  2. one day (unspecified)

Usage

Nhar means day, either as a unit of time or as daytime as opposed to night (lil). It is used without an article for "one day": "nhar men nharat" (one fine day), "yjik nhar" (a day will come for you, often threatening or hopeful). The usual plural is iyyem; nharat appears in some expressions. For "today", say lyoum, not nhar. "Nhar el 7add" means Sunday, and the other days follow the same pattern. A neutral word, used in all registers.
