nta3na نتاعنا

Algerian Darja · pronoun

“nta3na” (نتاعنا) is a pronoun in Algerian Darja meaning our.

Meanings

  1. our
  2. ours, belonging to us

Usage

Ntaana is formed from the possessive particle ntaa and the suffix -na (we/us). It goes after a definite noun: "dar ntaana" (our house), "lmomathilin ntaana" (our actors). It can also stand alone, meaning "ours" or "belonging to us": "hadi ntaana" (this is ours). This form is common in several regions. In Algiers, people rather say taana. The direct possessive with a suffix, such as darna (our house), remains possible and is often more natural for everyday words. The construction with ntaa is frequent with loanwords and long nouns.

Example

الدار نتاعنا قريبة للبحر.

dar nta3na qriba lel b7ar.
