nti نتي
Algerian Darja · pronoun
“nti” (نتي) is a pronoun in Algerian Darja meaning you (to a woman).
Meanings
- you (to a woman)
Usage
Nti is the second person singular feminine pronoun. It is used only to address a woman or a girl. The masculine is "nta" and the plural is "ntouma". The variants "enti" and "ntiya" also occur, the latter being more emphatic. As with "you" in English used for emphasis, the pronoun serves mainly to stress or contrast, since the verb already carries the person marking: "nti wach dirti?" (and you, what did you do?). The main pitfall is forgetting the feminine agreement and saying "nta" to a woman, which is immediately noticeable.
Example
نتي وين راكي؟
nti win raki?
“And you, where are you?”
