Usage

Tayyah is the causative form of tah (to fall). It first means to make an object fall, deliberately or not: "tayyaht t-téléphone" (I dropped the phone). It is also very common for "to drop someone off" in a car or taxi: "tayyahni hna" (drop me off here). Figuratively, it is used for a level, a reputation or a price that is brought down: "tayyah men l-mustawa ta3ou" (he lowered his standard). The register is colloquial and neutral. Do not confuse it with tah, which simply means "to fall".
