tayeb طايب
Algerian Darja · adjective
“tayeb” (طايب) is an adjective in Algerian Darja meaning cooked (food).
Meanings
- cooked (food)
- ripe (fruit)
Usage
Tayeb (feminine tayba, plural taybin) describes food that is cooked just right: "lham mazal ma tabch" (the meat isn't cooked yet), "l3ich tayeb" (the couscous is cooked). It also applies to ripe fruit, such as melon or figs. The related verbs are tab (to cook, to ripen) and tayyeb (to cook, to prepare food). The register is everyday and neutral. Pitfall: don't confuse it with the first name Tayeb or with the Classical Arabic adjective "tayyib" (good, kind), which sounds similar but means something different.

الدلاع هذا طايب مليح
dellaa3 hada tayeb mli7
“This watermelon is nice and ripe.”
