tfekker تفكر

Algerian Darja · verb

“tfekker” (تفكر) is a verb in Algerian Darja meaning to remember, recall.

Meanings

  1. to remember, recall
  2. to think of

Usage

A very common verb for "to remember". The person or thing remembered is attached directly (tfekkert yemma, "I remembered my mother") or with a clause (tfekkert belli…, "I remembered that…"). In the imperative, tfekker! means "remember!". Pitfall: in standard Arabic, the root mainly evokes reflection. In darja, tfekker first of all means to remember. The sense "to think about something" also exists, with fi. The opposite is nsa (to forget). The causative form fekker means "to remind someone of something".

Example

تفكّرت بلّي ما خلّصتش الضو
