“win” (وين) is an adverb in Algerian Darja meaning where (interrogative).

Meanings

  1. where (interrogative)
  2. where (relative)

Usage

Win is the most common interrogative adverb of place in Darja. It replaces Standard Arabic "ayna". It goes at the start of a question: "win rak?" (where are you?), "win tskoun?" (where do you live?). With a preposition, one says "mnin" or "men win" (from where). It also works as a relative of place: "rouh win t7ebb" (go where you like). The form "win" alone can express surprise or reproach: "win kount?" (where were you?). The register is neutral and it is used throughout Algeria.
