ya3jeb يعجب
Algerian Darja · verb
“ya3jeb” (يعجب) is a verb in Algerian Darja meaning to please someone.
Meanings
- to please someone
Usage
Ya3jeb is mostly used with a suffix pronoun that marks the person who is pleased: "ya3jebni" (I like it), "ya3jbek?" (do you like it?). As with the English verb "to appeal to", the thing liked is the subject. To say "I like this film", you say "ya3jebni had el film", not a construction with "I" as the subject. For the feminine, you say "t3ajebni". The negation is formed with ma… ch: "ma ya3jebnich". The word is common in all registers. It also appears in proverbs along the lines of "eat what pleases you, dress according to what pleases people".
Example
هاد الماكلة تعجبني بزاف.
had el makla t3ajebni bezzaf.
