3dded عدّد
Moroccan Darija · verb
“3dded” (عدّد) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to count, to tally.
Meanings
- to count, to tally
- to list, to enumerate
Usage
3dded (imperfect y3dded) means to count one by one, to tally something. It is often used with ch7al: "3dded ch7al ba9i" ("count how many are left"), for example the days before a deadline. To count money or do a calculation, 7seb is more common; 3dded stresses counting or listing items one by one. Be careful not to confuse it with the noun 3adad ("number"), which is written the same way without the shadda. That noun belongs mostly to a formal register, as in "3adad mn nnas" ("a number of people"). Nor should it be confused with 3end ("at"), sometimes abbreviated "3ed" online.
Example
عدّد ليا شحال من واحد جا للعرس
3dded liya ch7al men wa7ed ja l l3ers
“Count for me how many people came to the wedding.”
