“ana” (أنا) is a pronoun in Moroccan Darija meaning I, me.

Meanings

  1. I, me

Usage

Ana is the first-person singular personal pronoun, used for both masculine and feminine. It corresponds to both English "I" and "me". Since the verb already carries the person marking, ana is mainly used for emphasis or contrast: ana mkhlass, "I paid". On its own it forms nominal sentences, with no verb "to be": ana f dar, "I am at home". It also appears in short replies (ana!, "me!") or in wach ana?, "is it me?".
