ena انا

Tunisian Derja · pronoun

“ena” (انا) is a pronoun in Tunisian Derja meaning I, me (subject pronoun).

Meanings

  1. I, me (subject pronoun)

Usage

Ena is the first-person singular personal pronoun. Since the verb already carries the person marking, it is used mainly for emphasis or contrast: "ena nemchi, enti o93od" (I'm going, you stay). It is often placed at the start of a sentence, before an adjective or a negation: "ena mriedh" (I am sick), "ena mech fehem" (I don't understand). It is common in "7atta ena" (me too). The Tunisian pronunciation is generally "ena", with an initial e, rather than the "ana" of Standard Arabic. It is used by men and women alike.

آنا مانيش جاي غدوة

ena manich jey ghodwa

“Me, I'm not coming tomorrow.”
