“ani9” (أنيق) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning elegant, stylish (outfit, person).

Meanings

  1. elegant, stylish (outfit, person)
  2. neat, well-groomed in appearance

Usage

Ani9 comes from Standard Arabic and is used in darija mainly to talk about clothes, outfits or a person's look: "had lbass ani9", "kaybane ani9". Its register is a bit more formal than zwin or mzyan. In everyday conversation, many Moroccans prefer to say "classe" or "chic", borrowed from French. The feminine is ani9a and the plural is ani9in. It is usually placed after the noun or after the verb bane (to look, appear). The word does not suit everyday objects unrelated to appearance or style.
