bnisba بالنسبة

Moroccan Darija · preposition

“bnisba” (بالنسبة) is a preposition in Moroccan Darija meaning for, in someone's view.

Meanings

  1. for, in someone's view
  2. as for, regarding
  3. compared to

Usage

This expression comes from Standard Arabic, but it has entered everyday usage. It is almost always followed by l- or li-: bnnisba liya, "for me, in my opinion"; bnnisba l-lmusiqa, "as for music." It is used to give a personal point of view or to introduce a topic at the start of a sentence. The register is neutral and frequent in both speech and writing. The pitfall is forgetting the l- that follows: one does not say bnnisba ana. In the sense of "compared to" (comparison), m9arna m3a is also heard.
