byyen بيّن

Moroccan Darija · verb

“byyen” (بيّن) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to show.

Meanings

  1. to show
  2. to prove, demonstrate
  3. to let show (a feeling)

Usage

Byyen (perfect), ibyyen (imperfect) means to show something to someone, with the construction "byyen l-": "byyen liya" (show me). It is also used in the sense of proving oneself or showing what one is capable of: "byyen rasek" (show what you're worth). With a feeling, it means to let it show: "ma byyench bli t9ele9" (he didn't show that he was worried). Note: without the doubled letter, the same Arabic spelling reads "bin", the preposition "between, among" ("bin joj": between two). Context and pronunciation tell the two words apart.
