dakhel داخل

Moroccan Darija · preposition

“dakhel” (داخل) is a preposition in Moroccan Darija meaning in, inside of.

Meanings

  1. in, inside of
  2. entering, coming in
  3. inside (adverb)

Usage

Dakhel is used as a preposition meaning "inside of": dakhel ddar, "inside the house". It also works as an adverb, as in rah dakhel, "he is inside". It is also the active participle of the verb dkhel, "to enter", hence the sense "entering". The expression dakhel kharej, literally "entering, leaving", describes someone who constantly comes and goes, or who is always hanging around with a certain person. To say "inside of", the simple preposition f, "in", is often more natural. Dakhel stresses the interior of a place. Note: in writing, dkhel in the imperative, "come in!", can look like dakhel.
