dalil دليل

Moroccan Darija · noun

“dalil” (دليل) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning proof, evidence.

Meanings

  1. proof, evidence
  2. argument
  3. guide, manual

Usage

Dalil means "proof". It is used in arguments, serious discussions and when talking about justice, for example jib dalil ("bring proof") or ma 3ndek 7tta dalil ("you have no proof at all"). Its plural is dala2il. The register is slightly formal, but the word is perfectly common. Avoid a frequent confusion in arabizi: dlil or d lil actually corresponds to d llil, "of the night". So 12 d llil means "midnight" and has nothing to do with dalil.

Example

جيب ليا دليل

jib lia dalil

“Bring me proof.”
