dowwer دوّر
Moroccan Darija · verb
“dowwer” (دوّر) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to turn, to rotate (an object).
Meanings
- to turn, to rotate (an object)
- to stir, to mix by turning
- to surround, to go around
Usage
Dowwer is the intensive form of dar / ydor, "to turn". Dar / ydor is intransitive: dor 3la limen, "turn right". Dowwer is transitive: you make something turn, for example a key, a steering wheel or a spoon in a pot. Do not confuse the imperative dor, "turn", with dowwer, "make (it) turn": in Arabic script without the shadda, the two are written the same way. The noun dor, "turn" or "role", comes from the same family. The verb is conjugated regularly: kandowwer, dowwerti, ghadi ndowwer.
Example
دوّر الساروت مزيان باش يتحل الباب
dowwer sarout mzyan bach yt7al lbab
