dour دور
Tunisian Derja · noun
“dour” (دور) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning turn (in a sequence).
Meanings
- turn (in a sequence)
- role
- round of a competition
Usage
Dour (or dawr) first indicates someone's turn in a queue or a game: tawa dawri, "it's my turn now"; estanna dourek, "wait your turn". It also means a role, in theatre, in film or in a situation (3andou dour kbir). In sport, it refers to a round of a competition. The same Arabic spelling also corresponds to the verb dour, "turn!", and to the verb dawwer, "to turn, to go around", hence confusion in writing: only context can settle it.
Example
استنّى دورك، توّا دوري أنا
estanna dourek, tawa dawri ena
“Wait your turn, now it's my turn.”
