fde7 فضح

Moroccan Darija · verb

“fde7” (فضح) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning reveal a secret, expose someone.

Meanings

  1. reveal a secret, expose someone
  2. shame publicly, disgrace

Usage

The verb fdeh means to make public what was meant to stay hidden: a secret, a fault or a lie. It is used mostly with a person as object: fdehni ("he exposed me, he shamed me"). The nuance is almost always negative: someone is exposed to the judgment of others and loses face. It is often heard in reproaches such as "fdehtina qeddam nnas" ("you shamed us in front of people"). The related noun is fdiha, "scandal, shame". Note: for a simple piece of information being revealed, an English speaker would say "reveal", whereas fdeh generally implies damage to someone's reputation.
