fdha7 فضح
Tunisian Derja · verb
“fdha7” (فضح) is a verb in Tunisian Derja meaning to expose, reveal publicly.
Meanings
- to expose, reveal publicly
- to disgrace, humiliate
Usage
The verb fdha7 means to reveal what was meant to stay hidden: a secret, a fault, a cheat. It is very often used with a pronoun: fdha7ni ("he shamed me, he betrayed me in public"), fdha7 rou7ou ("he made a fool of himself"). The related noun, fdhi7a, means scandal or public shame; you also hear the exclamation ya fdhi7tna! ("what a disgrace for us!"). The register is everyday, often emotionally charged. Pitfall for an English speaker: the meaning is not neutral like "reveal". It almost always implies shame or harm for the person exposed.
